The Haloed Lesion

A 28-year-old, a newly graduated lawyer, came to the clinic complaining of an unusual spot on her back which she first noticed a few weeks ago. The spot has a dark centre with a lighter ring around it. Upon examination, the spot was about 1 cm in diameter. It had a pigmented central mole surrounded by a circular depigmented halo, which appeared lighter than the rest of her skin. The spot was non-tender, with no bleeding or oozing, as shown in the image. A dermatoscopy examination of the lesion revealed a central mole with no signs of irregularity or uneven colour distribution. The depigmented halo was uniform. She is not currently on any medications. She denies any trauma, has no history of skin cancer or autoimmune disease in her family, and has no history of prolonged sun exposure.
